5 Great Team Building Games for The Office

5 Great Team Building Games for The Office

A team that works well together, thrives together! Team members that work together are more effective, more productive and more successful. Not to mention, the work place is so much more pleasant when you have team members you enjoy being around. It can be a little difficult bringing your team together, but don’t worry – these team building games always do the trick.

We know what you’re thinking, “Yeah, but your typical team building games tend to cause more eye rolls than high-fives, and my employees are going to think I’m trying to be the next Michael Scott from The Office.” Trust us, adults can have fun playing games too! Spend one afternoon playing these team building games, and watch your team work together while having a blast! Here are five epic team building games for the office to learn, laugh and connect.

      Epic Team Building Games

      1. Back-to-Back Drawing

      Helps build: Communications Skills

What You’ll Need: Two small Think Boards, dry erase markers, and printouts of simple drawings or basic shapes.

Instructions: Split your group into pairs, and have each pair sit back to back. Give one team member a picture of a simple drawing or basic shape, and give the other the small Think Board and a dry erase marker. The person with the picture will give verbal instructions to their partner on how to draw the drawing or shape they’ve been given, without telling them what the drawing or shape is. After a set amount of time, have each pair compare their images and see which team drew the most accurate depiction of the drawing or shape.

      2. Marshmallow Spaghetti Tower

Helps build: Creative Problem Solving and Collaboration Exercise

What You’ll Need: 20 uncooked spaghetti noodles, one roll of masking tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow for each team.

Instructions: Using only these supplies, see which team can build the tallest tower. The catch? The marshmallow has to be at the very top of the spaghetti tower, and the whole structure has to stand on its own for five seconds. Oh, and no hands or other objects are allowed to support the tower! Pretty hilarious, right?

      3. Company Coat of Arms

      Helps build: Relationships and Bonding

What You’ll Need: One large white whiteboard, and dry erase markers.

Instructions: Have your teams create a company crest or coat or arms; like in Game of Thrones, how each house has its own crest, now your office will have its own coat of arms! In the first space on the whiteboard, draw something that represents a recent achievement. In the second space, draw something that represents your company values. In the third space, draw something that represents where you see the company going in the future. Post the finished coat of arms in the office, and represent it like every house does in Game of Thrones.

      4. Memory Wall

Helps build: Team Bonding and Icebreakers

What You’ll Need: A whiteboard and dry erase markers.

Instructions: Write some general work-related topics on the whiteboard: “Teamwork,” ‘Work Travel,” “My First Day,” etc. Have your team choose one of the topics, and share a story from their time with your company. Within minutes, you’ll notice your team laughing and bonding over old memories of working together and special team accomplishments. Once someone shares a memory, have them post it onto the whiteboard (using words or pictures), forming a positive memory cloud.

      5. Minefield

Helps with: Creative Problem Solving and Collaboration Exercise

What You’ll Need: An empty hallway or room, and a collection of common office items.

Instructions: Using old boxes, office chairs, staplers, water bottles, etc. to create an epic obstacle course of “mines” within an empty hallway or room. Divide the group off into pairs, and have one partner blindfolded. Have the other partner at the end of the “minefield,” guiding their partner through the course without setting off any mines. The person guiding their partner can’t enter the course, and they’re only allowed to use verbal instructions to get their partner through. Get ready to laugh because this game is hilarious!

Now that you’re equipped with an epic list of team building games, don’t be afraid to introduce them to your office! Your employees and team members will have an awesome time while playing these team building games, and they’ll bond while developing important communications skills.

Is your office in need a whiteboard for these team building games and/or daily activity? Think Board has you covered.

      Whiteboard Desks For The Classroom!

      Whiteboard Desks For The Classroom!

Converting Your Desks Into Whiteboard Desks!

Thinking about turning your desks into whiteboard desks? Great idea! We see students and teachers light up with excitement every time we come do an install - that's why working in education is one of our passions :) As education moves in the direction of "project-based learning" and "flipped classrooms," converting traditional school desks into whiteboard desks has become more demanded across the board. Whiteboard desks are highly recommended by every teacher we work with. Here's why:

      More Engagement With In-Class Activities.

Students love whiteboards and prefer to work on a whiteboard over paper any day of the week. The ability to write directly on the desk makes learning fun! Conjugating verbs, listening exercises, and writing exercises are more fun, engaging, and easy to monitor.

      Higher Test Scores

With an increase in class engagement, test scores and the students’ knowledge of the subject will naturally increase. Teachers love the ability to quickly gauge how each student is performing. Also, since everything is dry erase, teachers are able to quickly correct students’ misspellings or errors with the swipe of a finger.

      Save Paper!

With the ability to avoid paper for in-class activities, you could save roughly 50% of the paper currently consumed.

      Increased Efficiency in the Classroom

There is no longer a need to pass out those old clunky whiteboards for in-class activities! Just grab your Expo marker and start collaborating :)

      More Fun!

We don't get it. We really don't. But every time we see students interact with their whiteboard desks, we notice they proactively want to do math problems and conjugate verbs! Students love the freedom to write on the desk and are excited to learn!

Here's an unbiased quote from Ms. Venturino - a teacher who made her own from Home Depot supplies.

"With my new desks, not only is writing more pleasant but also it has brightened up my classroom. Since we did this in January 2017, I’ve used them multiple times with students. They’ve brainstormed for projects and given peer feedback (in a different color), drawn diagrams of science concepts, and reflected on their work.
My favorite part of it is that students can quickly do a gallery walk to see their peers’ work and add in comments and feedback in a different color marker. When they’re all done, they take a picture and we erase the desks."

And here is a teacher's reaction after we installed our Think Board films onto her desks!

And lastly, here's a quick video of our team converting this classroom into a whiteboard/Think Board classroom! (We covered the entire school!)

3 Productivity Tips for People Who Love to Procrastinate

3 Productivity Tips for People Who Love to Procrastinate

“I’ll get it done next week.” “I’ll do it tomorrow.” “Five more minutes.” As a procrastinator, you’re probably always finding excuses to delay the next task you have to complete. It’s OK, we’ve all been there. There’s always a voice in the back of your head telling you to “just do it already!” If you ever find yourself prolonging the inevitable, the Think Board is here to help! Let’s get you to stop procrastinating, and become productive! Here are the three productivity tips for people who love to procrastinate.

      1. Prioritize

Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize! It’s important to start each week, or each day, with a clear idea of what is most important that you have to get done. Write down your prioritization list on the Think Board, and you’ll be reminded daily of what important tasks you have to complete. Put your high priority tasks at the top of the list, and gradually work your way down.

      2. Acknowledge Your Procrastination

You tell yourself you’re going to take a two-minute break, and next thing you know 30 minutes have passed and you’re watching cat videos on your phone. It’s OK – all of us have been there. The best thing you can do at that point is call yourself out. In your head, or out loud, say a simple mantra like “stop procrastinating,” or “move on,” and get back to being productive! You got this.

      3. Set Deadlines & Time Restraints for Each Task

The Think Board will make this one super easy! Look at your to-do list on your Think Board, and next to each task write down a deadline and how much time you’ll allow yourself for each task. You could do this however you’d like: breaking each big task into smaller, more manageable ones. You could also tell yourself to work for 30 minutes, and then take a 10-minute break. This will shoot your productivity level through the roof!

If you need help getting your productivity level up, try using the Think Board! The Think Board is a great way to organize your to-do list, and stay on track. Shop all Think Board products here.
